LORA DUGUAY - ARTIST

Who I Am

I am a polio survivor who began oil painting as a hobby, which emerged into a full time career when postpolio syndrome affected my life. I paint as an expression of myself and a way to cope with pain.

My first art exhibition was in 2003 at Disability Independence Day in Dunedin, Florida. I have since exhibited my work in museums and galleries throughout Florida and the United States.

What I Do

My artistic creativity has been focused on the cultural beauty of indigenous tribes and nature. My paintings depict the beauty and romanticism of nomadic people living life from the earth, making my art unique, while the animals depict either the gentleness or ferocity associated with their nature.

I am currently on the Board of Directors with VSA Arts, as well as having participated as an Artist in Residency, encouraging creativity and sharing artistic knowledge with students who have disabilities.
